FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.—The curtain fell on Saturday night for the final performance of the second season in Fort Lauderdale. The Au-Rene Theater at Broward Center had also hosted the matinee performance earlier that afternoon.
The Christensens own their own furniture store in Boca Raton. They were pleased to share their impressions of the show. Mrs. Christensen said they both “enjoyed the show … very nicely done,” and they mentioned their top choices. Mr. Christensen emphasized his favorite was the “Drummers of the Tang Court.”
Mayor Kaplan of neighboring Lauderhill is an attorney and his wife Lynn is a loan analyst. They both appreciated the value of preserving cultural traditions, and he issued a letter of appreciation that expressed his gratitude to the organizers of the show, and their effort to “preserve cultural traditions that pay honor to our past.”
Both praised of the show highly. Lynn talked about how she noticed key similarities between the Jewish culture and traditional Chinese culture.
“I’ve always been a big admirer of Asian culture, because it is very similar to Jewish culture, steeped in tradition, which is something that is important for us to carry along from generation to generation … so I think that this is prevalent in the performance.
She said that, unlike some shows that are centered on a storyline, “This to me is more centered on the history of culture. … What I like is that costumes, song, and the dance tell a story without actually verbalizing, and I think that is absolutely fascinating.”
“It would be nice if different generations could experience a program of this nature, I think to be able to understand Asian culture better.”
She then expressed how much she enjoyed the graceful movements: “It’s almost as if they are moving in slow motion, very graceful …” acknowledging that such technique requires a unique kind of training. Both were quite fond of the “The Udumbara’s Bloom.”
The DPA Touring Company continues on to Sarasota and will conclude its Florida Tour in Jacksonville.
